|Together we transform concepts into environments and integral works of art.
Notions about color, form, content and style, are distilled in a creative process like the act of painting
itself. A strong rapport between the artist and client will make this process more successful
I look forward to our collaboration
Acculturated in the multifaceted suburbs Los Angeles, and surrounded by talent and opportunities, one of my earliest jobs was painting graphics and signage in preparations for the 1984 L.A. Olympics. The Memphis inspired designs escaped concept sketches, flowing out onto banners, buildings and kiosks. The effect was a collage of color and pattern over the muted underpainting of the city. The simultaneous rebirth of a sponsored mural movement added to the surreal vistas of the city. During this time, I assisted several experienced artists, who introduced me to the art of mural painting, and to an extended artistic family.
From this group, we formed a creative service producing in-house instructional videos, trade show kiosks and sales meeting designs for Mitsubishi, Emerson, Toshiba and others. It was an artistic boot camp, including set design, construction, prop painting, art direction and the design of graphics.
Breaking from these "labors", I attended the Pasadena Art Center College of Design majoring in illustration with an emphasis on fine art painting. The strong foundation in draftsmanship, design and painting have been vital to my career.
While attending Art Center, I began working on quirky independent films and videos. These projects lead to several mainstream films on the lots of Universal, Paramount and Columbia Studios.
I enjoyed the challenge of painting on mural scale, working with several art studios including the well established Douglas Bouman & Associates, where I was soon hired full time. I relocated with my wife and daughter to their studio on the Central Coast of California. DB&A offered the opportunity to paint full time on an epic variety of international projects. I have also enjoyed over 15 years collaborating with experienced talented artists and designers.
I gained a reputation for taking on challenging projects with difficult "loose" parameters. Murals and paintings with contradictory descriptions like "Classic Contemporary". I solved these problems by combining my experience with draftsmanship, rendering, painterly realism, digitally enhanced design, contemporary painting processes and abstract sensibilities.
Since 1999, I have also exhibited and sold my own artwork, maintaining relationships with several local galleries who display my work year round.
As of 2008, I have become a full time freelance artist, enjoying a new freedom of communication with my clients. I look forward to combining our collective knowledge, talent and experience.
